Dear Friends,

We have been observing with deep concern and horror the rise in antisemitism and antizionism and have been contemplating the historic consequences of such a rise. What is driving this current rise in “Christian” antisemitism? How could we combat it if we didn’t research and understand what was fundamentally driving it? In a world of hot takes and instant responses to political propaganda, which is vital and necessary in this information age, we personally desired to contribute to the discussion by taking a different approach.

Over the past nine months, we have been intentionally focusing on prayer, research, study, and discussion in the hope of discovering some of the fundamental and foundational reasons for the current spike in antisemitism and antizionism. We believe we have found some, so we want to share what we have discovered with you.

We have been contemplating these issues, discovering some crucial information, researching these ancient heresies and their impact, and writing and refining a set of three pieces — the previously published “What Would Jesus Say to ‘Christian’ Antisemites and Antizionists?” and the two pieces in this ancient heresy series — to hopefully contribute something useful to the conversation.

The Middle East Quarterly recently published his important and educational piece titled, “Palestinian Intransigence and the ‘Right of Return’”:

In the end, the claimed right of return is not a matter of law. It is a matter of politics, nationalist ideology, and the goal of destroying the Jewish state. Actual law does not support it. Nevertheless, proponents try to cloak it in legal argument. Let us examine their claims in more detail.

What We’re Watching:

Many of us have read and watched ’s analysis of the war between Israel and Hamas. As an attendee at the recent White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Murray provided an account of his firsthand experience of the thwarted assassination attempt and shared some vital insights. In an age of deadly political violence directed, in part, toward Jewish and Christian Zionists — including the targeting and murder of Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgram this past year — thought it important to share Douglas Murray’s analysis:

Brother,

I do not know you personally, but I sincerely wish that you and I could sit down and chat over some coffee in Israel. I would like to get to know and better understand your upbringing, your beliefs, and your family — what shaped you and made you the person you are today.

I came to know of you through your actions — smashing a statue of Jesus in Lebanon. In these cases, I believe strongly in not judging someone’s motivations for their behavior without hearing what those motivations are. So, I can only currently judge the behavior and actions you took and the impact that behavior and actions are having. Again, I cannot judge your motivation for your actions because I do not know them at this time.

Regardless of what those motivations are, as a Christian Zionist, I understand that Israelis remember church history. For many Israelis, their various experiences of Christianity and their view of Jesus — the Jewish man from Judea — would understandably be shaped by the horrific treatment of Jews by people professing to be followers of Jesus Christ — a Jewish man born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth.

As a Christian, I don’t hold any hostility or grudge toward you over you smashing a statue depicting Jesus. For Christians, forgiveness must come from the heart, and I can assure you that Christians extend that unconditional forgiveness from the heart to you, even if you believe you have done nothing wrong.

I come from a family of multiple generations of Christians who stand with the Jewish people and who support the state of Israel. So, my first response to your actions was instantly understanding the profound impact your actions — the actions of one soldier — would unjustly and unfairly have on the Jewish people, on the state of Israel, on the IDF, and on Zionists around the world.

My second emotion was anger — because I knew the timing of your actions would have a profoundly negative and historic impact. I wondered how you could not be aware of how deeply impactful your actions would be, particularly at this tenuous moment in history: Baseless hatred of Jews and of Israel — fueled by propaganda — is at a horrifying level around the world; Christians are being targeted by pro-Islamist propaganda — often currently veiled as “pro-Christian” or “pro-America” propaganda — with the goal of splintering the strong relationship between Christians and Jews and between Christian and Jewish Zionists and their shared love of Israel. An IDF soldier smashing a beloved Christian religious statute of a Jewish man from Israel could arguably not come at a worse time.

Because the IDF boasts soldiers who are Jewish, Christian, and Muslim, I am sure that your actions have impacted the entire IDF — especially Christian soldiers in the IDF. Whenever religious statues and icons are smashed and desecrated throughout history, it is never a good time.

Brother, if I had the chance, I would explain to you over coffee the Jesus I know — a man described in the New Testament born to Jewish parents, practicing Jewish faith, and embracing the Zionism of the Hebrew Bible. If he were born today, Jesus would be serving as a Jewish man in the IDF — a steadfast Zionist. I wish you had met that Jesus before smashing a statue of that Jewish man from Judea, beloved around the world by those who know him.

Filled with love for that Jewish man — Yeshua — and for you, Christians around the world will be praying for you — for you to be protected in the midst of the worldwide, horrific surge in Jew hatred; for your life and your family to be blessed; and for you to know only love, peace, and joy.

Technology changes. Culture shifts. But in many ways, geography is destiny. The fate of nations has both risen and fallen by dint of where certain things — key waterways, resources, borderlands, and trade routes — can be found on a map.

To 21st century minds unaccustomed to inherent limits, this sort of thinking might be hard to grasp. Policy debates over the last hundred or so years have often been centered on “isms”: communism, capitalism, internationalism, isolationism, neoconservatism, Wilsonianism, and everything in between. But these are creations of the modern era. By contrast, geopolitics seems to belong to another age.

But what might strike some as archaic has long been a feature of both war and peace. It is enduring. But it is often forgotten, or at best, minimized. However, this hasn’t always been the case.

It has been a little over a week since the end of our agonizing wait for action in Iran — a day of reckoning for the Iranian regime after their mind-boggling atrocity of slaughtering thousands of Iranian citizens in mere days on the streets of Iran.

For years, we wore our yellow pins to raise awareness of the plight of the October 7th hostages, whom Hamas took from Israel into the tunnels of Gaza. My yellow hostage pin — only recently retired thanks to the miracle of the return of all the hostages to Israel — is being pressed into service yet again. This time, I will be wearing my yellow pin to show my support for our military armed forces doing battle against one of America’s most ferocious and wicked enemies, the Islamist tyrants of Iran (ancient Persia).

On Friday, February 27, 2026, I read the entire book of Daniel — since its setting is ancient Persia / modern-day Iran — and contemplated its meaning. Would the United States take action to confront the Prince of Persia in our time? We awakened on Shabbat, Saturday, February 28, 2026, to the news we had all been waiting for over the past couple of months: America was answering the call of history in Iran/Persia, just as we have done many times before, all around the world, whenever wicked rulers have committed historic atrocities against humanity itself. The United States and Israel would be embarking on this mission with the full support and partnership of each other as steadfast allies in a war of the Islamists’ choosing.

While those who are colloquially known as the “woke left” and “woke right” oppose this US/Israel action in Iran, for many of us across the political spectrum, this is not a political action. This is a moment in world history that is an existential battle — one for the survival of the United States, Israel, the broader Middle East, and the world. Over 1,000 years of Islamist history and conquest have demonstrated that reality. Given the history of past United States’ involvement in the Middle East, concern about the nature and future history of the war and its aftermath is understandable. For some utopianists and communists on the left and for some isolationists and libertarians on the right, they have an ideological rationale for their opposition to the United States and Israel taking this military action. Their perceived inability or unwillingness to confront this moment in history should not daunt us. We are confident that good students of history will stand with us. We hope that future generations of good students of history will applaud the courage of the United States’ and Israel’s forces in taking decisive action.

The first day of action was exhilarating — the Ayatollah, the tyrant of Tehran, was dead. The prayers of millions, for his reign of terror to end, had been answered in spectacular fashion. For Jews and Christians, the timing was especially significant, coming right before the beginning of Purim. Once again, the Jewish people had defeated an ancient enemy in the land of Persia. I recently read the book of Nahum. Nahum 3:19b — describing the judgment of the Assyrian Empire and its capital, Ninevah — reminded me of the response of many to the news of the Ayatollah’s demise: “All who hear the news of you applaud your downfall, for who has not experienced your constant cruelty?” (Berean Study Bible).

I learned an important lesson as I watched our Iranian and Israeli friends celebrate the death of the Ayatollah — they danced, they sang, they celebrated. They knew something that we often forget as Westerners: Celebrate good news today, because bad news may be coming tomorrow. Indeed, we learned very quickly that Israel had lost civilians who were targeted by the Iranian regime’s missile attacks on civilian areas. America had lost members of our armed forces, who were targeted on American military bases in the Middle East. Our hearts mourn both the Israeli civilians cruelly murdered by Iranian missiles and the fallen soldiers of the United States’ Armed Forces killed by Iranian drones. We continue to mourn and will never forget the many thousands that the Iranian regime has murdered, not only in recent months but also in the decades of its wicked existence.

Our well-deserved celebrations of the end of the Ayatollah’s wicked reign have not abated the pain of these tremendous losses. The Iranian regime must pay the full price for the priceless lives that they have taken from us. We will never forget the threat the Iranian regime has posed to global peace and prosperity.

May G-d bless America. May God bless Israel. May G-d bless all the armed forces of both our nations and all those participating in this fight against the Iranian regime’s supremacist plans.

The past few months have been intense for all of us. For over a month, we have all been collectively inspired by the unheralded courage of our brothers and sisters in Iran and their fight for freedom and democracy. The horror of the incomprehensible atrocities and massacres of our Persian and Iranian brothers and sisters has felt like a physical weight in our hearts and bodies, unlike almost any other world event — other than the weight of October 7th. We are all in this agonizing wait — filled with horror that world leaders did not act sooner in accordance with our wishes to protect our vulnerable brothers and sisters in Iran.

For Zionists, the pain is weighty — given our knowledge of the threat that an Iranian regime surviving this challenge to their power would continue to pose to America and to Israel.

For Christians, the pain has an additional layer of heaviness. In the midst of decades of Islamist oppression, persecution, and murder, the Iranian people for years have been turning to Christ in tremendous numbers and growing a vibrant Iranian underground church (meaning Iranian Christians have to gather secretly to meet and to worship in order to avoid arrest and murder by the Islamist government). We are witnessing beloved members of our global family of believers being persecuted, being kidnapped, and being massacred by Islamists in Nigeria, in other African nations like Sudan and Mozambique, and in Iran. The pain is palpable and heavy. The passage of Scripture that comes to mind is Revelation 6:9-10 (Berean Literal Bible): “9And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those having been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had upheld. 10And they were crying in a loud voice, saying, ‘Until when, O Lord, holy and true, do You not judge and avenge our blood from those dwelling upon the earth?’” Our cries of “until when?” and “how long?” — to use the King James Version’s wording of Revelation 6:10 — join the cries from under the altar of Heaven of our brothers and sisters who have been murdered for their faith and for standing up for their human rights.

For Americans, the weight of this wait is unbearable — as we understand that our nation and Israel are the only two nations with the ability, military might, and courage necessary to come together and to work alongside the Iranian people in their fight for freedom.

And so, with every member of humanity who genuinely cares for global justice and human rights, we are in this agonizing wait — when all we can do is pray and advocate for our brothers and sisters for justice both on earth and in eternity.

Following the 21-day fast to combat antisemitism, and have taken a break to rest and recuperate. Today, we have returned in the midst of horrific news of a deadly shooting at Brown University, a terror attack targeting the US military in Syria, and a terror attack targeting the Jewish communities attending a Chanukah celebration in Australia.

As we processed these atrocities this Chanukah, we were reminded of another time when Chanukah celebrations generated tremendous faith and light in the midst of terror and demonic darkness.

Many are familiar with the picture of the Posner family’s Hanukkah menorah defying the darkness of rising antisemitism, and the story behind that photo: “During Hanukkah 1931, Rachel Posner, wife of Rabbi Dr. Akiva Posner, took this photo of the family Hanukkah menorah from the window ledge of the family home looking out on to the building across the road decorated with Nazi flags.”

That picture of the light of Chanukah challenging the darkness with courage and strength came to mind when we considered how to respond to the terror attack targeting “Chanukah by the Sea.”

As Yad Vashem documents, the poem on the back of the photograph reads:

Chanukah 5692

(1932)

“Death to Judah”

So the flag says

“Judah will live forever”

So the light answers

Many years later, “[o]n Hanukkah 5770 (2009), [the Posner’s] great-grandson, Akiva Mansbach, dressed in the uniform of the Israel Defence [sic] Forces saluted and read out a poem written in Hebrew in a similar vein to that written by Rachel Posner.

Translated it reads:

In 5692 the Menorah is in exile, it stands in the window

It challenges the party flag that doesn’t yet rule

‘Judah die!’ it says

And Grandma ‘s [sic] rhyme responds

In its own tongue, without despair:

So the flag says, but our candle answers and declares

‘Judah will live forever’

In 5770 the menorah stands in the window once again

Facing the flag of the ruling State

The descendant Akiva, named for his great-grandfather

Salutes through the window and lights the menorah

Grandmother, give thanks above and say a prayer

That ‘the Redeemer will come to Zion’ and not delay.”

Today feels like an extremely difficult time to say, “Chag Urim Sameach,” as millions prepare to celebrate Chanukah at a time of great darkness — a rise in antisemitism globally, horrific terror attacks that boggle the mind and senses, and a resurgence in demonically-inspired “Christian antisemitism” based in discredited, heretical teachings and historically-disproven blood libels. Inspired by the Posner family, we speak words full of life and light and solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters around the world that “Judah will live forever” and “‘the Redeemer will come to Zion’ and not delay” (Yeshayahu [Isaiah] 59:20). Chag Urim Sameach.
